One of the world’s best-rated airlines now offers frequent travelers to convert air miles into digital currency via its own blockchain-based wallet - KrisPay. Users of the “KrisFlyer” loyalty program will have access to an app and an opportunity to spend their air miles at hotels, petrol stations and other partners in Singapore. There are already 18 merchants - retailers, restaurants and fuel stations - who accept KrisPay miles.
The wallet was created by SIA, using its own private blockchain developed together with Microsoft. A successful proof-of-concept trial of the app was completed at KPMG’s Digital Village in Singapore. The wallet app is available via the App Store and Google Play.
Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phong said, “By creating a miles-based digital wallet which integrates the use of miles into their daily lives, KrisFlyer members have yet another way to use miles instantly on everyday transactions.”
