Bing Joins Google, Facebook, and Twitter in Banning All Crypto Ads

Bing Joins Google, Facebook, and Twitter in Banning All Crypto Ads

Microsoft’s Bing search engine has decided to ban all advertising related to cryptocurrency or initial coin offerings (ICOs) from its digital network, following in the footsteps of global internet giants Google, Facebook, and Twitter.

In a May 14 post on Bing’s official blog, Advertiser Policy Manager Melissa Alsoszatai-Petheo said that the Seattle-based company will “disallow advertising for cryptocurrency, cryptocurrency-related products, and unregulated binary options.”

The post said that because cryptocurrencies and related products are “not regulated,” the company has “found them to present a possible elevated risk to our users with the potential for bad actors to participate in predatory behaviors, or otherwise scam consumers.”

Bing will update its policy in June to reflect the ban and begin enforcing the ban in “late June to early July.” The Bing crypto ad ban follows in the footsteps of similar moves banning cryptocurrency ads by other internet giants. Facebook announced a crypto ad ban in late January 2018, while Google and Twitter followed suit in mid-March.
