Since beginning operations in 2015, Ockle has relied on crowdfunding to finance its product development.

Ockel separated the STO from prior token offerings since with an STO an investor can procure company shares with tangible value. The company considers it as a more secure and regulated form of investing. Investors can enjoy the same protection and privilege as those who participate in the a typical public offering. This type of fund sourcing is under the scope of the Dutch Authority for Financial Markets (AFM).
