Monopolisation Review: Fast Facts

We analyzed 232 Q2 2018 projects with tokens identified on Etherscan. We also performed a monopolisation review on 173 projects having more than 160 token holders. Only those projects intending to work on the Ethereum platform were included in this review.

Here are our findings:

One holder

  • One holder owns 90%+ of all tokens in the case of 10.4% of projects
  • One holder owns 70%+ of all tokens in the case of 24.9% of projects
  • One holder owns 50%+ of all tokens in the case of 40.5% of projects.

Five holders

  • Five holders own 90%+ of all tokens in the case of 26.6% of projects
  • Five holders own 70%+ of all tokens in the case of 55.5% of projects
  • Five holders own 50%+ of all tokens in the case of 75.5% of projects.

Ten holders

  • Ten holders own 90%+ of all tokens in the case of 37% of projects
  • Ten holders own 70%+ of all tokens in the case of 68.2% of projects
  • Ten holders own 50%+ of all tokens in the case of 81.5% of projects.

Fifty holders

  • Fifty holders own 90%+ of all tokens in the case of 57.8% of projects
  • Fifty holders own 70%+ of all tokens in the case of 82.1% of projects
  • Fifty holders own 50%+ of all tokens in the case of 91.3% of projects.

One hundred holders

  • One hundred holders own 90%+ of all tokens in the case of 67.1% of projects.

To sum up, in 40.5% of projects one holder owns more than 50% of all tokens. Five holders own 50% and more tokens in 75.5% of projects, while ten holders have more than 70% of all tokens in case of 68.2%. Fifty holders own more than 90% of tokens in almost 58% of projects, while one hundred holders - in the case of 67%.
